Sunday, 19th April 2015 – Almost there!
Although the forecast this weekend was for plenty of sun, it was also for rather cool temperatures (maximum 14 degrees) so we knew the chances of getting out of the berth were slight. Nevertheless, it was a very tempting thought as we viewed the world from the warmth and comfort of the car, to make plans for a possible trip out. Indeed we even stopped off at the village shop to buy food for the evening instead of trying out the marina's new Italian as planned. Arrival at the marina and one look at the state of the boat soon brought us to our senses, however.
After lunch in the cockpit, we set about getting the sails back on. This is always rather a lengthy process but it went well and by 4.30 both the main and genoa were back up, ready for use. By now, though, the wind was gusting 20 knots and any lingering ideas of overnighting on an island were knocked on the head.
After beer and nibbles in the cockpit, we retired down below for dinner. As ever, the evening just seemed to disappear and in no time it was Sunday morning! It was also only 7 degrees on board so we were very grateful for the mains power and the fan heater for a few hours.
After breakfast we went off for a walk over to view the changes in the part of the marina where we were previously and then down to the lake and back through the Paarderkreek campsite. Immediately behind our old berth they have built a sitting area with benches, a table and a slide directly into the water. It makes us even more pleased that we changed berths last year.
One downside this weekend was that when Kim ran the engine for a few minutes and went to empty the new filter, he found that the work had not been finished properly and diesel was leaking through some loose fittings. This is annoying in itself but all the more so as it meant that we were unable to move all the stuff currently in the forepeak back into the cockpit locker. Still never mind, it should be a pretty quick job next time and we will be ready to go.
We have crossings booked for the next 3 weekends on the basis of leaving our options open. Maybe next time we'll be able to get to an island!
Friday, 24th April 2015 – We’re Getting Soft!
We have a Shuttle booked for tomorrow, but the weather does not look very inviting.
So we won’t be going over. It seems a bit silly to go and spend a weekend on Emjaytoo in the marina, when there are a load of things to do around the house/garden.
